Jasmine Guy

  1. Rosanna Arquette, Pulp Fiction, 1993.
  2.  Lisa Kudrow, Friends, TV, 1994-2004.     As if anyone else could have been Phoebe... There was heated controversy about not a single black friend being part of the Central Perk coffee house gang. Coming off 136 episodes of A Different World, 1987-1993, Jasmine was on the March 7, 1994 reading list... just as Mel Gorham was the sole Latino auditioned (also for Phoebe).
  3. Halle Berry, Introducing Dorothy Dandridge, TV, 1999.     As well as for Halle, this was also the dream project of the TV star from A Different World. Jasmine had long held rights to the book by Earl Mills, Dandridge’s (white) manager. Then Halle got them - the right actress won. In 1955, Dorothy was the first black nominated for a Best Actress Oscar; in 2002, Halle went one better than her idol, becoming the first black Best Actress Oscar-winner... and dedicated the moment to Dorothy, Lena Horne and  Diahann Carroll.
