David Bailey

  1. David Hemmings, Blow-Up, 1966. Italian maestro Michelangelo Antonioni's swinging London photographer was obviously based on Bailey - the fashion and celebrity lenser who put ikon into Nikon. Carlo Ponti sent assistants  to meet with him. “I thought they wanted me to direct.” Instead, they posed questions galore about his clothes, work and play habits. He  refused the offer: “Hey, I can't  even remember  a phone number!”  Pity, his casting would have stopped a glut of bad (well, rushed)  Hemmings movies following his triumph in Antonioni's film.
