Helen Reddy

  1. Barbara Streisand, A Star Is Born, 1976.       Then  again, which hot singer hadn’t been in  the mix throughout  the 70s - Cher, Liza Minnelli, Diana Ross, etc.
  2. Maureen McGovern, Airplane! 1980.          Universal threatened to sue on learning that the Kentucky Fried Theatre gang wanted the Aussie singer to reprise her singing nun from Airport 1975. Obviously, that film was a major target, but this spoof more particularly targeted Zero Hour!, 1957, and the famous line: “We have to find someone who can not only fly this plane, but who didn't have fish for dinner.”  Dissolve.  McGovern was an extra gag - she had sung the Oscar-winning theme songs for two disaster movies, The Poseidon Adventure, 1972, and The Towering Inferno, 1974.
