Craig Stevens (1918-2000)

  1. Dennis O’Keefe, Moonlight Masquerade, 1941.    Well, no wonder O’Keefe was chosen over Stevens… Dennis had been here before. Kinda… Three years earlier in Pop Always Pays, he had to save $1,000 before he could marry Pamela Blake. Now, he has to wed Jane Frazee, the  daughter of his father’s oil business partner, if the ywant to inherit the company.  And they’d never met!
  2. Cary Grant, Operation Petticoat, 1959.     Tony Curtis wanted Cary as his submarine commander. Universal wanted anyone else - to   avoid having to pay Grant (and his company) 10% of the  profits    Curtis refused the studio choices - tele-dicks David Janssen (Richard Diamond, 1957) and Craig Stevens (Peter Gunn, 1958-1961).   And Universal paid out plenty as Cary’s 62nd  movie   proved his   #1 box-office winner.    Time magazine was soon saying  Cary was rich enough to join NATO.
