Billy Idol

  1. Chris Jagger, Lifeforce, 1984.

  2. Robert Englund, The Adventures of Ford Fairlane, 1989.        A bad motorcycle smash nearly wiped out Idol - and certainly meant he couldn’t play Smiley.Finnish director Renny Harlin called up Englund to take over - they’d got on well while making the fourthNightmare On Elm Street  (The Dream Master) in 1987.

  3. Robert Patrick, Terminator 2: Judgement Day, 1990.      A rock singer drops out of a film - particularly a James Cameron film - for one of two reasons. Drugs. Or a motor-cycle smash. Idol crashed his bike… Another rocker, Blackie Lawless, was dropped for a whole new reason. He was too tall for the T-1000. The director then saw Patrick in Die Hard 2

  4.  Bruce Payne, Highlander IV - Endgame (aka: Highlander: World Without End),  1999,   After the so-so series, Christophe(r) Lambert came back with the tele-Immortal Adrian Paul (as Connor and Dunan MacLeod) to tackle the horribly evil Jacob Kell who had 666 kills to his name.  (Number remind you of anything… anyone?).  Before Surrey’s Payne was selected, candidates included Idol, David Bowie from the music world and Jean-Claude Van Damme from the world of schlock.
