LQ Jones

  1. Robert Nichols, Giant, 1955.
  2. Abdoulaye Diop, Coup de Torchon (Clean Slate), France, 1981.   French scenarist Alain Corneau planned Jim Thompson’s novel, Pop 1280, as his directing debut  in the US in the 70s with Warren Oates, LQ Jones, Ernest Borgnine. A decade later, Bertrand Tavernier made it his way. OK, fine, sure, now about that name… Justice Ellis McQueen Jr  was ranching in Nicaragua when his  college roommate, Fess Parker, who had gone to Hollywood, sent him a copy of Battle Cry. McQueen fancied fhe role of LQ Jones, in the book,  it seemed to fit him.  Director Raoul Walsh agreed and put  “the kid” into the 1954 film… and McQueen remained LQ Jones ever after.
