Christine Lahti

  1. Sissy Spacek, Carrie, 1976.
  2. Carrie Fisher, Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope, 1976
  3. Holly  Hunter, Broadcast  News,  1987. Writer-producer-director James  L Brooks scoured the highways and byways...
  4. Daryl Hannah, Roxanne, 1986.    Steve Martin, the scenarist, star and exe producer of the superb modern-day Cyrano de Bergerac, searched high and low for his titular love.  He voted  Daryl – with Christine as first reserve.
  5. Diane  Keaton, Housekeeping, 1987.  Before  British producer David Puttnam officially began his (short) tenure as Columbia production chief  in Hollywood, he picked  up this project from the dreaded Cannon. Since first reading the book in 1985, Bill  Forsyth  (Puttnam produced his Local  Hero, 1983) had always wanted Diane Keaton for his US debut. With filming due in Canada, she withdrew - so  did Cannon. Lahti was about to take over when Keaton returned, obviously preferring Columbia to Cannon.  Didn't help the movie.
  6. Mary Steenburgen, Miss Firecracker,1989. The pregnant Christine  recommended her  friend  -  just  as  the  pregnant  Mary had recommended  Lahti  to take her role  in  Swing  Shift, 1984. Firecracker director Thomas Schlamme is Lahti's husband and found her some walk-ons.  She is pregnant in  a crowd and later seen, greeting Mary:  "C'mon over here and kiss my new baby. This is Willie."  So it was -  Wilson Lahti Schlamme, aged five...  days.
  7. Sharon Stone, Basic Instinct, 1991.
  8. Vickie Lewis, Godzilla, 1997.  Dreaded director Roland Emmerich got stuck in the L Section for his Dr Elsie Chapman.
