  3. Jai Courtney, Divergent, 2013.     Having lost his audition for “Four” in the start of another dystopian trilogy, Teller was given Eric – but said he could never be intimidating enough towards Theo James. OK ,said director Neil Burger, how about Peter?Fine!
  4. Ryan Gosling, La La Land, 2015.      Teller and Emma Watson turned into Gosling and Emma Stone as the jazz pianist and actress meeting in LA - in director Damien Chazelle’s follow up to his and Teller’s Whiplash breakthrough. So he’d done hjs musician thing ? Well, no. But the flop of Fantastic Four, 2014 - Marvel icon Stan Lee saw it coming and refused his usual seal of approval cameo - led to Teller being hastily axed.  As if the failure was his fault.
  5. Alden Ehrenreich, Solo: A Star Wars Story, 2017.

Austin Butler, Elvis, 2019.  The final five testing voices, gyrating pelvises and lip-locvk sneers  for the King of Rock ‘n’ Roll  in Aussie director Baz Luhrmann’s biopic cxame down to…   Ansel Elgort, already booked for Steven Spielberg’s West Side Story… Harry Styles, thne One Direction pop idol, who debuted in Dunkirk… Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Quicksilver in  Avengers: Age of Ultron…  Miles Teller, aka Mr Whiplash, sharing Top Gun: Maverick wih Tom Cruise. Selecting  the dreaded Colonel Parker was easier.  Tom Hanks. And then Hanks (sharing his producer’s hat with Steven Spielberg) chose Butler for their latest WWI series, Masters of the Air, TV, 2021.
