Dick Powell, Footlight Parade, 1932. It was the Motion Picture Daily which reported that Powell inherited Scotty from Smith, a veteran of the early talkies and leading man for Clara Bow, Nancy Carroll and Ginger Rogers. Director Busby Berkeley’s film is better remembered for being James Cagney’s first song ’n’ number.
