- Charlie Ruggles, Go West, Young Lady, 1941. When Buchanan was stuck on You Belong to Me, Ruggles took over as Jim Pendergast – passing his original rôle of Judge Harmon to Jed Prouty. Everyone was happy, Except Buchanan, missing a pay-cheque. At the rate he won screen roles - 172 in 34 years - he wasn’t out of work for long.
