- Albert Dupontel, Au revoir la-haut, France, 2017. Caustic actor-director Dupontel had previously chosen the Beglian for his Enfermés dehors, Le villain and 9 mois ferme. “But two months before shooting started, he was epuisé… tired out. I tried the “bankable” actors but…. Most were already booked up.” So he had to play the lead and direct. He did so, brilliantly. Hence: Best Director César in 2018. Plus another for adapted script. And the absolutely glorious film won three more: photography, decor and costumes. From 13 nominations.
