Asia Argento, B Monkey, 1998. After four hits – ScandaL, Memphis Belle, Roby Roy, The Jackal – Scottish directior Michael Caton-Jones quit this romantic thriller for many reasons. Topping the list was Miramax boxss Harvery Weinstein refusing thed British Okonedo as the titular Beatrice. Why? What else would you expect from Weinstein but: she wasn’t fuckable. Or, more likely, not agreeable to sex with him. Nor was Dario Argento’s daughter who later revealed, she was sexually assaulted by the dreaded Weinstein during the production. He invited her into a hotel room, “pulled her skirt up, forced her legs apart, and performed oral sex on her as she repeatedly told him to stop,” said journalist Ronan Farrow. As many as 95 actresses or models (Rosanna Arquette, Cate Blanchett, Eva Green, Gwyneth Paltrow, etc) alleged sexual assault or harassment by the producer, and a further 15 (including Rose McGowan, Annabella Scvorra) accused him of rape. Found guilty of two charges – rape in the third degree and a criminal sexual act in the first degree – Weinstein was jailed for 23 years in March 2020.
