Ann Crowley

  1. Jane Powell, Hit The Deck, 1954.    MGM secured RKO’s  rights as early as 1947.  Vera-Ellen was first choice for Rear Admiral Walter Pidgeon’s stage-struck daughter. Powell was next,  then she suddenly wanted out and Broadway’s Crowley tested – and bingo, Powell vaulted back into the fifth version of Hubert Oscorne’s play Shore Leave – the most famous being Fred ’n’ Ginger’s Follow The Fleet, 1935. Think Anchors Aweigh and On The Town – and watch them instead of this tired offering.
