Grace Chloe Moretz

  1. Miley Cyrus, Bolt, 2007      The girl from Georgia voiced Penny – then Disney realised they had a star at home  -headlining the TV series, Hannah Montana, 2006-2010.
  2. Jodelle Ferland, Case 39, 2008.      The future 2009 Kick-Ass babe fortunately lost this incredulous horror flick – a major step back for Oscar-winner Renée Zellweger as a social worker dealing with the titular Ferland. Chloe and Jodelle would be rivals again for… .
  3. Darcy Rose Byrnes, Dirty Sexy Money, TV, 2008-2009.      In the final season, Peter Krause’s daughter, Kiki, was played a third actress – after Elle Fanning in the pilot, and Moretz during the first season.
  4. Jennifer Lawrence, The Hunger Games, 2011.
  5. Juno Temple, The Dark Knight Rises, 2011.
  6. Isabelle Fuhrman,The Wilderness of James, 2012.     Tied  to her sequel, Kiss-Ass 2: Balls To The Wall, Moretz had to pass thelow budget indiemovie tothe girl sharing M Night Shyamalan’sAfter Earth with Will and Jaden Smith.
  7. Abigail Breslin, August: Osage Country, 2012.    GCM tried out for Julia  Roberts’ smartmouth  teengae daughter  Jean Fordham –  in Oklahoma playwright (and actor) Tracy Letts’ adaptation of his 2008 Pulitzer Prize winning play. But so did Abigail – winning despite suffering 103 degree fever!.  Chloe didn’t mind. She won the rebooted Carrie!
  8. Abigail Breslin, Maggie, 2014.      “The challenge was… the movie’s called Maggie, but the father who has the leading role,” said producer Matt Baer.  Another way of  saying: We don’t care who plays the chick! Took five  years to sign, of all people, Schwarzi… as the US farmer  tending his daughter infected with, well, zombieness.
  9. Maisie Williams, The Devil and the Deep Blue Sea, e2015.      Plan A: Moretz opposite Zach Braff – or Jason Sudeikis Plan B: Williams opposite Jeffery Dean Morgan. And C…? Williams and Sudeikis, back as the introverted Henry. So it goes. Sometimes.  Moretz lost out to one of the Game of Thrones discoveries….
  10. Sophie Turner, X-Men: Apocalypse, 2015. “A big monster of a movie,” declared producer-director Bryan Singer. “A kinda conclusion of six X-Men films, yet a potential rebirth of younger, newer characters.” To succeed Famke Janssen’s Jean Grey, a mutant scared of her super-abilities, Singer mused over Lily Collins,Elle Fanning, Chloë Grace Mortez, Sasha Pieterse, Saoirse Ronan, Hallee Steinfeld and Hollywood’s hottest newcomers: Star Wars find Daisy Ridley and The Wolf of Wall Street’s Margot Robbie. He voted Turner, becasuse of how she handled the dark side of her Game of Thrones character, Sansa Star … and despite Sophie having blue eyes and Janssen, dark brown.
  11. Lily James, Baby Driver, 2016.   And this time  to a Downton Abbey find.  Oh,  these UK actors…! When UK director Edgar Wright was sacked by Marvel from his Hollywood debut, Ant-Man, in 2014, he moved on to his long gestating project wity Ansel  Elgort became the tritular driver. Moretz missed one helluva ride. “A remorselessly entertaining, impeccably assembled action-musical in which cars and people defy the laws of physics and common sense,” said The  Village Voice. In short, what Marvel never  wanted .  An Edgar Wright movie!!
  12. Sophie Illis, It, 2016.   CGM was the strong favorite for the abused Beverly Marsh.  She had been the first teenage actress ty play Carrei in the 2012 re-make. But by the time the delayed shooting began, she was too old for the 225th (and biggest ever hit) of King’s staggering 313 screen credits.  She was all of…. 19!
