Megan Mullally

  1. Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Seinfeld, TV, 1990-1998.    Finally revealed during a Seinfeld special, aired on  November 25, 2004.  Jerry did not forget. He invited Megan to voice the queen in his Bee Movie cartoon, 2006.
  2. Crystal Bernard, Wings, TV, 1990-1997.    Marcia Cross, Lisa Darr, Gina Gershon, Peri Gilpin, Marcia Gay Harden, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Julianne Moore, Rita Wilson also  auditioned for Helen… who finally wed  Tim Daly’s Joe  at the end of the sixth season and 172 episodes.
  3. Leah Remini, King of Queens, TV, 1998-2007.  Like waiting for London buses or a British copper, suddenly a brace of great New Yorkers came along  to Megan. Will & Grace’s pal, Karen - and Kevin James’ wife, Carrie.  She left Queens to Leah.
  4. Debra Messing, Will & Grace, TV, 1998-2006.     Megan lost the titular Grace. She played Karen and was first of the team win two Emmys... plus three consecutive Screen Actors Guild Awards. "I didn't get Will & Grace until I was almost 40. Had I listened to everybody else who kept saying, 'Oh, there's too much competition, you'll never get an agent, you'll never get a part, 90% of actors are out of work"... if everybody listened to that, then nobody would leave the house and the world would come to a crashing halt."
  5. Vicki Lewis, Finding Nemo, 2002.    Suits often forget the fact that actors are… actors. Capable, usually, of many voices. Mullally was booked for Deb/Flo (Ebb/Flow, get it?) because of how she sounded as Karen in the Will & Grace series. She now used her more natural voice, the suits went ballistic. Go with Karen or go.   She refused both suggestions and was instantly deep-sixed!
  6. Idina Menzel, Frozen, 2012.  Back at Disney, she auditioned for Queen Elsa. “Thank you. Next!”  And enter: Idina...  She had been the sorceress Circe in the TV Hercules, 1997, and Nancy in Enchanted but lost  her third Disney call Tangled’s Rapunzel ..  Not this time. She was soon recounting how her young son was telling his school mates how his Mom sang the Frozen songs. Only to be told by another kid: “So does everyone’s else’s.”
