Charles Craig

  1. Wilfred Lucas, The Massacre, 1912.   First choice of the heroic Stephen in DW Griffith’s silent short.Craig was given another role inthis 70th of his 120 movies during 1909-1931.
  2. Jerry Drew, The Painted Desert, 1930.  Drew replaced Craig but the real interest  about this Z-Western was a certain Clark Gable making his talkie debut. How come? Well (deep breath),  his  agent, Minna Wallis (sister of producer  Hal B Wallis)  introduced Gable to producer EB Derr, and when asked if he could ride, Gable lied in his teeth - and spent the new few weeks learning  how from cowpoke Art Wilson. “I’d never been on a horse in my life.”
