Matthew Goode

  1. Pierce Brosnan, GoldenEye, 1994.
  2. Henry Cavill, Man of Steel, 2011.
  3. Tom Sturridge, Far From The Madding Crowd, 2013.  For his second film in English, the Danish director Thomas Vinterberg first offered Sergeant Troy to Goode - but settled for Sturridge. In 1966, Terence Stamp was a memorable  Troy flashing his sword around Julie Christie in extra footage directed by cameraman Nic Roeg rather than the director John Schlesinger.
  4. Ben Affleck, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, 2015.
  5. Scott Eastwood, Overdrive, 2016.    Cast and curious… The car-stealing brothers went from Goode and Alex Pettyfer to Karl Urban and Ben Barnes to Urban and Sam Claflin to, finally, Scott Eastwood and Freddie Thorp. If only as much time had been spent on changing the script, a cut-and-paste copy-cat giving B-movies a bad name.
  6. Max Irons, The Crooked House, 2017.    Agatha Christie’s 1949 mystery, was, allegedly, her favourite work.  The reason it took 68 years to be filmed is because the killer (not really a spoiier) is a child. Tut, tut!  Neil LaBute planned a version in 2010. He aimed for Matthew Goode as Dame Agatha’s youngest sleuth… as befits her youngest killer. He’s none too bright. A servant (Julian Fellowes is among the writers) works out whodunnit before he tumbles to the obvious.
