Margia Dean

  1. Fay Baker, Notorious, 1945.    Margia (pronounced Mar-juh), the Queen of Lippert Studios (she appeared in nearly half its product), was born of royal Greek descent in Chicago, 1922. Alfred Hitchcock noticed her in a stage outing and offered her a support role in the Cary Grant-Ingrid Bergman thriller.   “I couldn’t do it” - ironically because of the very play that had impressed Hitch.
  2. Anitra Stevens, The Egyptian, 1953.    The former  Miss California, was in  the Fox mix for Queen Nefertiti, a minor role in  this shoddy slice of BC history. MGM talent scout Frank Orsatti and director Gregory La Cava were much taken with  Dean’s potential but both guys died before doing anything about it.
  3. Anne Francis, Rogue Cop, 1953. Dean, Anne Bancroft and Barbara Bates tested for Nancy, the drunken moll of the guy who stole all - George Raft in his first A movie in years.
