Scotty Beckett (1929-1968)

  1. Gene Reynolds, The Mortal Storm, 1939.   When Judith Anderson was due as his mother, ten-year-old Beckett was set as  youngest child – becoming the six year older Reynolds when mother was Irene Rich. New York Times critic Bosley Crowther  called it blistering anti-Nazi propaganda. Hitler agreed. And promptly banned all MGM films in Nazi Germany.  And Scotty, poor Scotty,  the cute kid of the 30s and 40s, working wih Errol Flynn, Greta Garbo, Norma Shearer, Spencer Tracy,  finished up  in alcoholism, drugs, and crime.
  2. Skippy Homeier, Tomorow, The World!  1943.    Tested for Emil, the Hitler Youth having to live with his American uncle (Fredric  March). According to the posters, the role went to the “Sensational” Skippy, who created  the role on Broadway and won 134 more screen roles  as Skip Homeier.
