Rebecca Ferguson

  1. Léa Seydoux, Gambit, 2016.       X-Men loved Bond girls. Seydoux was the third to enter the franchise after Halle Berry and Famke Jamssen. The French girl’s rivals had been Swedish Ferguson (she preferred Anna in The Girl on the Train, 2016) and Australian model Abbey Lee. Léa and Rebecca partnered Tom Cruise in his Mission : Impossible franchise; in fact, Rebecca made two, 5 and 6, after what Deadline Hollywood’s Mike Fleming Jr called her “who’s that?” performance in Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation, 2014.
  2. Lily James, The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society, 2017.  Has to be British with a title like that…  Candidates for the Juliet Ashton inlcuded Michelle Dockery and Rebecca Ferguson - and Kate Winslet when Kenneth Branagh was due to direct. Kate was replaced by Rosamund Pike, who quit during more production delays.  As well as Lily James,  director Mike Newell used other  actoers - and one location – from Downton Abbey.
  3. Brie Larson, Captain Marvel, 2018.   It was a long wait but Marvel’s 21st feature was a Black Panther-style triumph since opening on International Women's Day, 2019.  LA legends insist that Carol Danvers was nearly played by Emily Blunt, Natalie Dormer, Rebecca Ferguson, Bryce Dallas Howard, wrestler Ronda Rousey, Katee Sackoff, the Handmaids Tale’s Yvonne Strahovski, Charlize Theron (when Angelina Jolie was invited to direct), Olivia Wilde or The Vikings’Katheryn Winnick. Then, Brie Larson made a 2015 film called Roomand won an award called Oscar.  That settled it for the Marvel chief called Kevin Feige. He loves Oscar winners, booking more than 20 for Marvel roles so far, such as Cate Blanchett, Michael Douglas, Anthony Hopkins, Natalie Portman  - and Tilda Swinton,  who’s part of The Avengers: Endgame  with the Marvelous Brie.
