Maurice Moscovitch

  1. Gregory Ratoff, Symphony of Six Million, 1930.      Fannie Hurst’s name as printed largest on the poster. Associate producer Pandro Berman was keen on Moscovitch for the father. Instead, it became the Hollywood acting debut of the Russian-born Ratoff, a future “director.” He was also the first Hollywoodian to secure rights to Ian Fleming’s 007 book, Casino Royale. Moscovitch’s 13th and final film was Chaplin’s Great Dictator
  2. Maria Ouspenskaya, Dance, Girl, Dance, 1940.       The Yiddish theatre actor was selected for the dance mentor (temperamental, of course). He died shortly after shooting began. His rôle was ummediately re-spun for a woman.
