Patrice O'Neal (1969-2011)

  1. Michael Clarke Duncan, The Green Mile, 1998.   This is the 67th of King’s staggering 313 screen credits, a supernatural companion piece to The Shawshank Redemption, 1993.  And the black guy on (the green floored) Death Row is John Coffey, "like the drink, only not spelled the same." He’s convicted of molesting and killing two little white girls, yet seems too simple and, well, good, for that.  He has, of course, super-traits and seems to be another man who fell to earth. Above all else, he is… gigantic! Hence, basketball ikon Shaq was suggested. .  Plus  stand-up Patrice O’Neal. Then, Bruce Willis reccommended MCD from their Armageddon,1997. Perfect, Oscar-nominated and, alas, dead at 54, by 2012.  (O’Neal died from a stroke at 41).
  2. O-Tip, She Got Hate, 2003.   They had worked topegthert on The 25th Year the previous year, so Brooklyn auteur  Spike Lee asked the  Boston stand-upto play Vada Huff. No, man, no. The shoot clashed with the start of the TV pilots’ season.
  3. Terry Crews, Everybody Hates Chris, TV, 2005-2009.   In the mix for Chris Rock’s father, Julius, “cheap, frugal, worrisome, level-headed devoted, husband and the father,” said Wikepedia. Even if he did use duct-tape to fix anything  bropken in the home!
