Heather O'Rourke (1975-1988)

  1. Drew Barrymore, Firestarter, 1983.   First there was the telekinetic Carrie White.  Now comes Charlene McGee, a  much  younger (eight!)  pyrokinetic! Yes, we’re back jn Stephen King country.  With the 12th of his 313 screen credits(!) The youngster auditioning for Charlie included the 1982 Savannah Smiles star, Bridgette Andersen…  Jennifer Connelly, about to breakthrough jn Sergio Leone’s Once Upon a Time in America…  Taylor Neff, an ice-rink champ  on and off the screen…and poor Heather - dead at 12.r. It had also been Barrymore v O’Rourke for Poltergeist, 1981; Drew made ET, instead. Of course, she did.  She was Spielberg’s god-daughter.

  2. Natalie Gregory, Alice In Wonderland, 1985.       At age ten, the Poltergeist poppet passed on Alice - opposite Tony Newley was dead three years later at age 12 from ardiopulmonary arrest and intestinal stenosis. She is best remembered, at age six, for the second of her 15 screen roles, in Steven Spielberg's production of Poltergeist in 1981.
