Paul Winchell (1922-2005)

  1. Rick Jason, The Day of the Wolves, 1971.   When first announced for Vancouver locations in 1967, the revisionist Western was headed by Georgee Montgomery and New York ventriloquist  Paul Winchell, better er known (loved) as  the voice of Tigger in 47 Winnie the Pooh toons!    Egan and Rick Jason saddled up… in Arizona.

  2. Jim Cummings, The Tigger Movie, 2000.      Maybe I should replace Winchell by… Knucklehead Smiff. That was the name of the 50/60s’ TVentriloquist’s second most famous dummy, and whose voice he used for Tigger for 33 years. He was succeeded (in Tigger’s movie) by Cummings, who had also inherited Pooh from Sterling Holloway. Winchell, who also voiced Dick Dastardly, Gargamel, etc., died at 83, a day before John Fielder, aka Piglet. The vent’s daughter, April, spoke for Clarabelle Cow, Baby Herman's Mother, Simpsons and Men In Black characters and… Cruella De Vil. Her dad’s top dummies, Jerry Mahoney and Smiff, now reside in the Smithsonian Institution.
