- Warren Beatty, Dick Tracy, 1989. Before Beatty was Dick and the director (he owned the rights to his boyhood idol!), Bono and the missus, Cher, had been set for a 70s’ musical version that never took off. Cher was to be Tess Trueheart, of course. Next came Ryan O’Neal in the early 80s.
