Scott Adkins

  1. Razvan Oprea, Second In Command, 2006.    That rarity, a Tae Kwon Do and kickboxing expert from Sutton Coldfield, UK –Undisputed II: Last Man Standing, The Bourne Ultimatum, 2006 – had to pass Private First Class Devereaux to Oprea… who also opposite his idol Jean-Claude Van Damme in another film that year,The Hard Corps. (Ho ho!).
  2. Adam Leese, UntilDeath, 2006.  Withdrew from his role of Van Huffel around the same time as Ringo Lam withdrew as helmer of Jean-Claude Van Damme’s Bulgarian adventures.
  3. Ray Park, GI Joe: The Rise of Cobra, 2008.     From Star Wars’ Darth Maul to playing Chuck Norris (in TV’s Legend of Bruce Lee that year), Park joined Hollywood’s outrageous toys-as-source-material movies. Rolling Stone critic Peter Travers skewered this one: “I don’t know what to say about the acting, writing and directing… because I couldn’t find any.”
  4. Steve Austin, The Expendables, 2009.   The tough Brit from The Bourne Ultimatum, 2006, was beaten to Eric Roberts’ man-mountainof a bodyguard (well named Paine) by the Texas wrassler. Sly would have preferred Adkins(who he called back for the 2011 sequel) as in their fight, Austin broke Stallone’sneck…“I could have been left quadriplegic. My neck has now been rebuilt. I’ve got steel bolts, you name it. Sly-enstein!”
  5. Darren Shahlavi, Kickboxer: Vengeance, 2015    Adkins passed on Jean-Claude Van Damme’s 1988 role of Eric Sloane in the re-boot. This time, JCVD is Sloane’s mentor.  Shahlavi, another UK action star, took over…and  died soon after shooting was completed.
  6. Ben Affleck, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, 2015.
