Lupita Nyong’o

  1. Naomie Harris, Southpaw, 2014.     The wondrous Mexican-Kenyan find  from 12 Years A Slave agreed to play Angela Rivera until delays clashed with her agenda: Non-Stop with Liam Neeson, Disney’s Jungle Book and a certain  Star Wars VII: The Force Awakens, The Jungle Book, etc.  All because on March 2, 2014, Lupita became the first Kenyan and  first Mexican-born actress to win an Oscar, and  the first African actress to win Best Supporting Actress.
  2. Rooney Mara, Pan, 2014.        The casting of the white Mara as the Native American Tiger Lily led to an enormous public row with Warner Bros. The 13 Years A Slave support-Oscar winner, succulent new French find, Adéle Exarchopoulos and Bollywood’s Pooja Hegde were in UK director Joe Wright loop for Tiger Lily. Mara later told the UK’s Telegraph that as a white actress, she regretted playing the Native American character. “I really hate, hate, hate that I’m on that side of the whitewashing conversation… I don’t ever want to be on that side of it again. I can understand why people were upset and frustrated.”
