Beyoncé Knowles

  1. Kate Bosworth, Superman Returns, 2005.
  2. Angelina Jolie, Wanted, 2007.  For his US debut, Kazakhstan director Timur Bekmambetov had the choice of Halle Berry, Beyoncé, Jessica Biel and Jada Pinkett Smith for Fox, of the  thousand-year-old secret society of assassins, The Fraternity. But Jolie had an inside edge – basing her Fox on Clint Eastwood. And showing geeky James McAvoy “how to load a phallic pistol and shoot his wad,” said  Rolling Stone’s Peter Travers.  So she fired up again for Salt, 2009.
  3. Anika Noni Rose, The Princess and the Frog, 2008.      Disney dropped its invitation to voice Tiana – the studio’s s first African-American princess –   when the pop queen refused to audition, (Tyra Banks, Jennifer Hudson and Alicia Keys agreed). Apparently, Blue Sky Studios didn’t insist on auditions four years later when Knowles became Queen Tara in its Epic toon.
  4. Uzo Aduba, The Wiz Live! TV, 2015.     Too risky for a superstar? Knowles simply passed on Glinda, the good witch of the South.   Boston’s Aduba was so keen she tested blonde wigs before using her own braids in the live production for NBC on December 3, 2015.
