Sally Eilers

  1. Joan Bennett, Me and My Gal, 1931.    Said the waitress to the cop: “If you’re gonna kiss me like that, you’re gonna have to marry me.” Spencer Tracy heard about the sexy comedy being set up at Fox for James Dunn and Sally Eilers, and said: Hey, why not do that with me and Bennett. Done deal. They went on, of course, to two Father (and mother) of The Bride films in the 50s.
  2. Claire Trevor, Jimmy and Sally, 1933.    Claire’s fourth film and biggest break came when the dazzling Eilers stalked out of her screen romance with James Dunn – while concentrating on switching her real husband from cowpoke Hoot Gibson to producer Harry Joe Brown.
