Clio Goldsmith

  1. Rachel Ward, Sharkey’s Machine, 1980    The star and dcirector, Burt Reynolds, wanted a Brit for Dominoe. He bypassed Clio and Stephanie  Beacham for Ward – in her cinema debut – and called the movie: Dirty Harry Goes To Atlanta. If only.
  2. Valérie Quennessen, Summer Lovers, 1981. “I’m no sex symbol,” said the UK beauty. “It’s very flattering. But it’s rubbish. I’m just… me! I turned it down because of a bad experience with nudity in an Italian film. I now make it clear in my contracts just how much I will or will not take off. Instead of negotiating salary with me these days, the producers are all pleading with me to agree to at least pull my skirt up a little higher or something.” Clio still managed to make eight films in two years and become, sister-in-law of the UK Prince Charles’ second wife, Camilla Parker Bowles.
  3. Jane Alexander, City Heat, 1985. Biggest break for the French and Italian star from London fizzled out when the stars and producers – Clint Eastwood and Burt Reynolds – pulled rank over director Blake Edwards’ casting choices… Their rank didn’t work at the box-office. Due to her second marriage, Clio became the sister-in-law of the heir to the British throne, Prince Charles, and his second wife, Camilla Parker-Bowles.
