- Dennis Lill, Doctor Who #94: Image of the Fendahl, TV, 1977. The smooth Hardy, plus Colin Blakely, John Carson, John Franklyn-Robbins and Michael Gough were in the running for archeologist Dr Fendelman, opposite Doc4 Tom Baker in a little UK village, instead of the usual strange planet. Imagine a planet called Fetchborough.
- Clifford Rose, Doctor Who #113: Warriors’ Gate, TV, 1981. Hardy, Derek Jacobi, John Normington, Jon Stafford and Frank Windsor were offered Captain Rorvik opposite Doc4 Tom Baker in the finale of the serial known the E-Space trilogy.
- Stratford Johns, Doctor Who #117: Four To Doomsday, TV, 1981. The burly TV cop agreed to a total make-overr – as the frog-like Monarch of Urbanka. Hardy, Ronald Lacey, Leonard Sachs and Nigel Stock did not! Somehow, Hardy never Whoeved in all his 130 credits. Then again he was playing Churchill five times – more than any other actor – and his WWII ally, US President Franklin D. Roosevelt twice. Plus the fictitious Minister of Magic Cornelius Fudge in the Harry Potterverse.
- Patrick Stewart, Lifeforce, 1984
- Aubrey Morris, Lifeforce, 1984.
- Ian Richardson, Year of the Comet, 1992. Not sf at all, but an amusing, romantic, almost Ealing Studios style hunt for a rare wine bottled during the previous appearance of… here comes the title… Halley’s Comet.
- Paul McGann, Doctor Who (The Movie), TV, 1996.
