Patton Oswalt

  1. Kevin James, Hitch, 2004.      The stand-up star was seen about being the timid and er, chunky, accountant requiring the servics of dating guru  Will Smith. Except no one should be funnier than the star and producer. And he proved a great fan of James in The King of Queens, 1998-1007.  Everyone agreed. Because the producer was also The Star. Will Smith.
  2. David Cross, Alvin and the Chipmunks, 2006.     After agreeing to beIan Hawke (boss of the rival Chipettes),Cross had a hard time from fans and fellow comics- like Oswsalt and Brian Pos    ehn who had refused the role. Hitting back onhis blog, the cross Cross said he did it for the money, never saw the movie (or theotherkids’ movies he made like Kung Fu Panda), loved the voicing process and, therefore, like Edith Piaf, had absolutely no regrets. He stayed aboard for the 2008 Squeakquel.
  3. Anthony Anderson, Transformers, 2006.      The Virginia stand-up passed on playing Glenn Whitman.  Anderson  was later in  the mix for voicing the autobot Jolt in in the first Michael Bay sequel., Transformers : Revenge of the Fallen, 2008.
  4. Nick Thune, Beach Lane, TV, 2010.      He was dropped as the rich slackerrunning a Hamptons newspaper – after a table read-through with Matthew Broderick. No one should be funnier than the star! Oswalt was offered a lesser role but NBC never turned the pilot into a series.
  5. Ryan Potter, Big Hero 6, 2014.  “We didn’t set out to be superheroes. But sometimes life doesn’t go the way you planned.”  What were they thinking? Obviously Jack Black, Will Forte, Bill Hader, Jason Lee, Justin Long, Patton Oswalt were way too old for voicing Hiro Hamada, a robotics prodigy of 14,  in Disney’s first Marvel subject, winning the best animation Oscar.. It unfurls in 2023 (we all know that computer battery number, right?) in San Fransokyo (‘Frisco rebuilt by the Japanese after an earthquake) and deals with a super-troupe behind the titular collective name… that nobody ever uses.  Portland’s Potter, 19, continued in the Big Hero series and then voiced Keji Kon in Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous, 2020-2021.
  6. Andy Bean, It Chapter Two, 2018.   Jack Black, Will Forte, Bill Hader, Jason Lee, Justin Long, Patton Oswalt were in the mix for the adult Stan Unis… in the 262nd of Stephen King’s staggering 313 screen credits… and his second biggest hit! The first?  It, 2016, of course. (King Kameo: Pawnbroker).
