- Adam Colman Hawkins, Slaves of New York, 1989. One of casting director Howard Feur’s selections for the Merchant-Ivory team.
- Mark Boone Junior, The Thin Red Line, 1998. Returning 21 years after Days of Heaven, Terrence Malick won great interest from the new generation’s actors – Kevin Costner, Lukas Haas, Ethan Hawke, Dermot Mulroney, Patton, David Paymer – rushing to a script reading at producer Mike Medavoy’s home in March 1995. None of them made the film. Numerous stars – Cage, Clooney, Costner, Depp, DiCaprio, McConaughey, Pacino, Pitt, etc – collided over themselves to offer their services (even for free) for the wizard auteur. Others wondered if he still had “it”. He did. And then lost it with one too many of his iconoclastic/pretentious pieces.
