While first tinkering with the scenario in 1981, auteur Patrice Leconte considered Pierre (half of a comedy duo) as the over-the-hill radio star touring France with his game show – as over-the-hill as he was. Almost inevitably, it became Rochefort’s second of seven films for Leconte.
