Rainn Wilson, The Office, TV, 2005-2013. Missing out on sycophant Dwight, Besser moved on into The Back Room and the chat-show satire (yes, another one), Comedy Bang! Bang! Also reading for Dwight Kurt Schrute III were Judah Friedlander, Jarrett Grode, Patton Oswalt, Matt Price, Seth Rogen. Plus three Matts: Besser, Price and Walsh. Wilson (first seen for the boss, Michael Scott) survived the full 187 episodes.

The Farrelly brothers looked over veteran comic-writer Besser (90 screen roles since 1996), Woody Harrelson, James Marsden and even Justin Timberlake for Larry Fine in what was an obvious flop from the get-go. Bobby and Peter adored the Stooges (hence their own un-subtle comedies) but there were not many other fans left of their literal slap-dash boinks, pokes, slaps, nyuk-nyuks, nyaaahhhs. Even Mel Brooks backed off from such a project in 1974 for exactly the reason that this one failed,. “It’s so hard to sustain a plot that could withstand their antics for that long.”

Game over! Recently, we’ve seen Marlon Brando leading Jack Nicholson by one or two movies he chose not to make – and then, almost immediately, vice-versa. The gap is much wider now. We’ve found two more titles for Jack – Wall Street, Scent of a Woman - and just one extra for Marlon (The Killer Inside Me). Result: Jack now tops the league with 179 films compared to Brando’s 173. A BOND MISS

It’s more doubtful that the next Bond will be Aaron Taylor-Johnson. Not because his name is longer than any 007 title. But from August (and instead of Adam Driver, Brad Pitt, Keanu Reeve or John David Washington,) he has his own Marvel to nuture,. Kraven the Hunter – fifth film in the Spideyverse. (Aaron was an Amazing Spider-Man contender in 2010). He’s also into the WWII bomb heist, Fuze, and joins M-that-was, Ralph Fiennes, in the 28 Years Later chapter from Danny Boyle – who, of course, directed Daniel Craig and his ultimate Bond Girl, The Queen, for the 2012 London Olympics.
