Carice Van Houten

  1. Lucy Punch, You Will Meet A Tall Dark Stranger, 2009.    When Nicole Kidman dropped out, the Dutch beauty (from Paul Verhoeven’s Black Book, 2005, and Tom Cruise’s Valkyrie, 2007) nearly dropped in as the actress.Until auteur Woody Allen was won over by Lucy. “I’d never heard of her,” Woody told Aussie journo Helen Barlow. “She just seemed like the best person -we looked at some pretty famous women, too.”
 All prepared to shake their
booty? “Yes. But they never did it as well as Lucy!”
  2. Lena Headley, Game of Thrones, TV, 2011-2013.  Unable to audition for Cersel in the first season,  Carice made time  for the second – as Melisandre of Asshai, advisor to King Stannis Baratheonin 2012 for 58 episodes of HBO’s colossus based  on George R R Martin fantasy novel series, A Song of Ice and Fire, following the bloodthirsty family  battles for the Iron Throne of the Seven Kingdoms.  Shakespeare without the words.
  3. Gwyneth Paltrow, Mortdecai, 2014.   Some  producers fancied Carice  for Johanna – producer-star Johnny Depp voted Gwyneth. Their interplay (reminiscent of William Powell and Myrna Loy) was something of a rehearsal for The Thin Man re-make  which Depp had been trying to set up.
  4. Mary Elizabeth Winstead, The Parts You Lose, 2018.    First announced at the 2015 Cannes festival with a Dutch star and director – Van Houten and Paula van der Oest  – the thriller was produced in Winnipeg by (among others)  The H Collective’s Nic Crawley. Who happens  to be my brilliant son… taking his own sweet time entering my site!  With a title that  matches my fetish about casting!
