1. – Max Cavallari, Pinocchio, Italy, 2002. Sounds implausible but Italy’s enfant terrible (auteur-painter–poet-writer-Marxist and a most religous atheist) Pier Paolo Pasolini planned a version of Geppeto & Son in the late 60s, starring Totò, as Geppetto and PPPs lover (from age 15-24) Ninetto Davoli as the wooden lad. Plus Caprioli as The Cat (and his wife, Franca Valeri, as The Fox). Totò’s 1967 death ended the project and it was another 35 years before another Italian comic, Roberto Benigni, spun a new spin – and made the flop of his life!
