- John Travolta, Grease, 1977. Well, just for John Travolta’s (or more correctly Jeff Conaway’s) showstopper, Greased Lightning. Odd notion as the BBoys were not exactly rockers. Little of the stage musical was in the triumphant movie; songs were cut, replaced or, as with Hopelessly Devoted to You, written and shot after the wrap. Greased Lightning was given to the all powerful Travolta because he said so, leaving poor Conaway without his solo which was, after all, about his character’s car! DXJ 1432. The band comprised brothers Brian, Dennis and Carl Wilson, plus their cousin Mike Lobe and pal Al Jardine.
