- Pilou Asbæk, Ben-Hur, 2015. The Chilean actor with a wide ranging TV CV – The Mentalist to Game of Thrones – was first choice for cast as Pontius Pilate in the (fifth) Biblical re-make. He was lucky to escape such an almighty flop. The Danish Asbæk was not.
- Idris Elba, The Dark Tower, 2016. Had to be an A-Lister for director Ron Howard’s trilogy version – finally cut to the worst ever single movie of a Stephen King work. Or, in this case, the seven book series about Roland Deschain, last of a knightly order of gunslingers – The Good, The Bad and The Ugly meets Lord of the Rings. But which Deschain: Pascal, Javier Bardem, Christian Bale, Viggo Mortensen… or Daniel Craig and his first Bond villain: Mads Mikkelsen?
- Riz Ahmed, Venom, 2017. Pascal, Matthias Schoernaerts and Matt Smith were in the frame for Carlton Drake. But Ahmed was selected by director Ruben Fleischer for the billionaire scientist mad enough to believe he could control sentientaliensymbiotes. Like the titular Tom Hardy.
- Oscar Isaac, Moon Knight, TV, 2022- Rapper Daveed Diggs, Oliver Jackson-Cohen, Nick Kroll, Shia LaBeouf, Ross Marquand, Pedro Pascal, Max Theriot, even ex-wrestler turned comicbook writer CM Punk were all in the mix for the Marvel Batman – except ex-CIAgent Mark Spector has super powers from the Ancient Egyptian Moon God Khonsu, it says here. Give me Bruce Wayne any day.
