- Wally Brown, Notorious, 1945. Before deciding on Wally, Alfred Hitchcock had tested the Scottish Douglas for Mr Hopkins in the spy thriller – the very matrix for the Bond films. Douglas won 113 screen roles in 16 years, including as many as 18 releases in 1939. Before 1940, he was billed as Donald. He died at 40 after an emergency appendectomy, with the last three movies yet to open.
