- Courteney Cox, Friends, TV, 1994-2004. As if anyone else could have been Monica… Ally was among the many seen for what the creators pitched as “searching for love and commitment and security… and a fear of love and commitment and security.” The following year she appeared in the rom-com, You Were Sleeping, with Sandra Bullock (also up for Monica) and won her own NBC three year series in 1996: Profiler.
- Margaret Colin, Independence Day, 1995. Ally suddenly had to pass on Connie. For a joke, Colin, 37, told a raw casting assistant that she was 22. He thought she was too young and reported that she was unavailable. Eventually, the mess was sorted and she started shooting within 24 hours. Sorry, no idea what happened to the casting lad. Probably running a studio.
- Daphne Ashbrook, Doctor Who (The Movie), TV, 1996.
- Jamie Gertz, Still Standing, TV, 2002-2006. In the mix for Mark Addy’s wife in the domcom. She was in good company: Kristie Alley, Kathy Griffin and Toronto’s Jennifer Irwin.
