Bernard Hill

  1. Andrew Burt, Doctor Who #126: Terminus, TV, 1983.    Hill, Burt, Nicholas Ball, Tom Chabon, Paul Darrow, Michael Gothard, Del Henney, Patrick Mower, Patrick Stewart, Anthony Valentine, David Warner were in the Valgard mix – to join Doc5 Peter Davison at the Terminus space station which proved to be a leper colony. Now read on…
  2. Terry Molloy, Doctor Who #137: Attack of the Cybermen, TV, 1984.     Ralph Bates, Brian Blessed, Brian Glover were on the list for Russell. – with Hill. However, director Matthew Robinson wanted to reward Molloy with a human character – after his heavily made-up Davros in the previous #133: Resurrection of the Daleks, 1984. Hill never visited the Whoverse. He was appearing elsewhere – in the $1 billion hits: The Lords of the Rings and skippering Titantic.
  3. Don Henderson, Doctor Who #146: Delta and The Bannermen, TV, 1987.     Chimeron Queen Delta escapes the baddies and heads to Disneyland (!) but arrives instead at… a Welsh holiday camp! Director Chris Clough chose Henderson for Bannerman boss Gavrok from producer John Nathan-Taylor’s familiar dartboard list: Hill, Nicholas Ball, Kenneth Colley, Michael Elphick, Michael Gothard, Jeremy Kemp, Ronald Lacey, TP McKenna, Clifford Rose, Peter Vaughan, Simon Ward, David Warner.
  4. George Sewell, Doctor Who #148: Remembrance of the Daleks, 1988.      Aunty searched for fascist leader Ratcliffe among Hill, Joss Ackland, Kenneth Cope, Peter Gilmore, Glyn Houston, Stratford Johns… and survivors of the astonishing army of 203 candidates for just 18 roles in Lifeforce in 1984: George Baker, Keith Barron, Steven Berkoff, John Carson, Kenneth Colley, Del Henney, Ronald Lacey, TP McKenna, David Warner, Frank Windsor. The difference being Who was science fiction and Lifeforce was science fart.
  5. Ian McKellen, The Lord of the Rings trilogy, 2001-2003.
  6. Paul McGann, Lesbian Vampire Killers, 2008.      Last minute change of Vicar of the cursed village – in Wales.
