1. – Leo Gorcey, Dead End Kids, 1937. The film starred Humphrey Bogart, Joel McCrea, Sylvia Sidney, Claire Trevor and was stolen by, as the New York Times said, “the six incomparable urchins imported from the stage production.” The Dead End Kids became The Little Tough Guys, The East Side Kids and ultimately, The Bowery Boys. “Charlie left to do another play,” said Huntz Hall. “He thought he’d be the biggest star in the world. Leo [his understudy] stepped into his shows and Charlie’s show flopped.”
