- Robin Williams, Aladdin and the King of Thieves, 1996. Williams was sitting out an enormous row – “betrayal” – with Disney. Castellaneta, aka Homer Simpson, took over as the blue Genie in two other Aladdin gigs: the video of The Return of Jafar, and TV show, Aladdin, both released in 1994. A change of hierachy led to public apology to Williams, who then agreed to razzle his dazzle anew for this second video sequel. Castellaneta had already voiced the film, but his material was junked.
- Adam Godley, Charlie And The Chocolate Factory, 2004. Director Tim Burton looked at 20 TV dads for his Mr Teavee. Dan voiced Homer Simpson, no less, in 600 episodes (and counting) since 1989. Also in the mix: Tim Allen, James Belushi, Ed O’Neill, Ray Romano, Bob Saget and Kurtwood Smith. Godley was a huge 1998 hit as Kenneth Williams in London’s behind-the-Carry-On-scenes play, Cleo, Camping, Emmanuelle, and Dick.
