Dany Carrel

  1. Daniele Delorme, Voici le temps des assassins, France, 1955.    A year after being father and daughter in Des gens sans importance, Jean Gabin wanted “la mome” as his movie mistress. Realisateur Julien Duvivier would not wear it.  Nor, he felt, would the public – still very puritan in the 50s. “She’s too young,” “Well ” rasped Le Vieux, “age her.” Carrel was 20, looking 16 or 17; Delorme was 29.  Gabin made  up for it as soon as he could,  making sure  Dany joined him in Le Pacha, 1967.
  2. Magali Noel, La Fidélitié (Fidelity), France,  1999.     Sophie Marceau’s agent Dominique Besnehard suggested one of his (and my) early loves  for her mother  but the ever-piquant Carrel was ill  and another favourite of their epoch joined Marceau’s fourth film with her lover, director Andrzej Zulawaski. It’s flop marked the end of their 20 years together. Two years later, Sophie’s directing debut, Parlez-moi d’amour was about a couple separating.   Of course, it was!
