Charlotte Henry, Alice in Wonderland, 1933. Suddenly everyne wanted to film Lewis Carroll’s mosy famous pork. Desoite being 40, Mary Pickford planned to be Alice with animation items made in Disney! Columbia wanted to star Eva LeGallienne, 34, in a screen adaptation of her stage version. But it was Paramount who won the rights and tried to save its sinking ship with most of its contracted stars (Cary Grant as Mock Turtle!). Didn’t work. Their costuming hid who they were. From 7,000 Paramlount chose nine Alice possibilities . Marge Champion, 16; Betty Gable, 23; Paulette Goddard, 23; Pearl Hay, 12; Ida Lupino, 15; Anne Shirley, 15; and two real kiddiwinks: Sue Kellog and the stunning six-year-old Marilyn Knowlden. The winner was Charlotte Henry, 19, from New York and eventually 31 other movies.

Game over! Recently, we’ve seen Marlon Brando leading Jack Nicholson by one or two movies he chose not to make – and then, almost immediately, vice-versa. The gap is much wider now. We’ve found two more titles for Jack – Wall Street, Scent of a Woman - and just one extra for Marlon (The Killer Inside Me). Result: Jack now tops the league with 179 films compared to Brando’s 173. A BOND MISS

It’s more doubtful that the next Bond will be Aaron Taylor-Johnson. Not because his name is longer than any 007 title. But from August (and instead of Adam Driver, Brad Pitt, Keanu Reeve or John David Washington,) he has his own Marvel to nuture,. Kraven the Hunter – fifth film in the Spideyverse. (Aaron was an Amazing Spider-Man contender in 2010). He’s also into the WWII bomb heist, Fuze, and joins M-that-was, Ralph Fiennes, in the 28 Years Later chapter from Danny Boyle – who, of course, directed Daniel Craig and his ultimate Bond Girl, The Queen, for the 2012 London Olympics.
