Willeke Van Ammelrooy

  1. Monique van de Ven, Tureks fruit/Turkish Delight, Holland, 1972.    Top star Willeke was obvious first choice for Olga in director Paul Verhoeven’s lusty version of Jan Wolker’s lustier novel. She refused, however, to lose other jobsby having her head shaved. (Hadn’t she heard of wigs?)  Real truth is that producer Rob Houwer refused to meet her usual salary of  50,000 guilders.  He spent 19,000 on Monique, who went direct from her classes at Maastricht’s Theatre School to sharing the screen - and bed - with Rutger Hauer who, as his character boasted, screwed better than God. They clearly inspired auteur Bertrand Blier, Gérard Depardieu and Miou-Miou in the similar 1974 French sensation, Les valseuses.
