- Howard Keel, Kismet, 1954. The Milan-born opera star - one of the finest basses of the post-war period - tested for the roguish Poet opposite Ann Blyth and Dolores Gray. Siepi only had one screen role - the same one twice: Mozart’s Don Giovanni, in a 1954 film and a 1960 TV production. Two years earlier, Keel had been Alfred Drake’s Brodsay understudy as the wandering poet and self-styled King of the Beggars.
