Ian Hendry (1931-1984)

  1. Honor Blackman, The Avengers, TV, 1962-1964.      Fans were shocked when “Dr” Hendry quit assisting John Wickham Gascone Berresford Steed after the first 25 episodes, when the production was left with six scripts that the budget would not cover any re-writes. “So,” said the main writer Brian Clemens,“they brought in Honor and she played the man’s part.” And really put theshow on the map.
  2. Michael Caine, Get Carter, 1971.      According to debuting UK director Mike Hodges, Hendry never forgave Caine for usurping the titular role, causing a resentful friction between them as seen on-screen and in such memorable lines as Caine telling Hendry his eyes haven’t changed. “Pissholes in the snow.”
  3. Lee Montague, The Legacy,1977.     Welsh director Richard Marquand’s list for the hotelier, Grandier, were Joss Ackland, Peter Arne (also up for the immolated Liebnecht), Ian Bannen, John Carson Frank Finlay, Ian Hendry, Peter Jeffrey.  Also in the literal horror was Who singer Roger Daltrey - his price for allowing his country house to be used for five murders. Leading man Sam Elliott warned the Associated Press off the film: “It’s about 15 years behind its time.”
  4. Patrick Stewart, Lifeforce, 1984.
  5. Michael Gothard, Lifeforce, 1984.
  6. Aubrey Morris, Lifeforce, 1984.
  7. Frank Finlay, Lifeforce, 1984.
