FRank Welker

  1. Vin Diesel, The Iron Giant, 1998. First planned as a filmusical, based on Pete Townshend’s concept album, inspired in turn by UK poet Ted Hughes’ book, Brad Bird’s terrific toon won the best reviews and worst audience of 1999. Welker (from Aladdin), Sean Connery, Peter Cullen (Transformers), James Earl Jones, were up for the giant robot’s voice. Montana’s Bird went on to Disney, directing The Incredibles, Ratatoulle - with time off for helming Tom Cruise’s Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol.

  2. Weaving, Transformers, 2006.       The original Megatron (among other voices) in The Transformers, 1983, was voicing elsewhere. Besides, director Michael Bay wanted deeper tones to suit the Decepticon leader’s new look. Welker was later OKed for Megatron's new body Galvatron - in Transformers: Age of Extinction, 2013.   Previously, Welker had voiced the younger years of Leonard Nimoy’s Spock in Star Trek III: The Search For Spock, 1983. Then, they shared Megatron/Galvatron in Transformers: The Movie, 1985, directed by Michael Bay… Nimoy’s cousin. So it goes.
